Organic Certification

Soil provides the nutrients for our plants and the animals that feed on them.  All our farmers certified as either organic or biodynamic improve the soil structure so it is nutrient rich, retains more water and retains more carbon than conventional methods.

You can be assured you are buying genuine organic products because we source meat only from “certified organic and/or biodynamic” farms.  Certification is strictly regulated in Australia.

Biodynamic Certification

Biodynamic is a holistic approach to caring for soil, land, plants, animals and people and one key additional step beyond organic principles is the use of manure only from within a bio dynamic ecosystem.  These farmers use a specific horn manure BD 500.  It is cultured from fresh biodynamic cow manure stuffed in a cow horn and buried in rich biodynamic topsoil for 4-6 months over the winter.   Indeed, Crystal Brook Farm at Pinjarra produces BD 500 used by other farmers practising Demeter Biodynamic methods in Western Australia.

An organic farm also follows a holistic approach although it can use additional certified organic fertilisers. When they have livestock, as our farms do, it is a key technique that animals roam around pasture and their manure feeds the soil and plants.  All our certified organic farmers are able to demonstrate superior soil structure.

The Australian Certified Organic Standard is one of the most respected and rigorous standards in the world for organic production.

The practical application of the rules is a farm exhibiting principles of health, ecology, fairness and care.  That directly benefits you with food to support your health and indirectly benefits you by enhancing the environment in WA.
